The Federal Government of Somalia launched AMP to increase access to electricity and bring new development opportunities to rural communities as a pathway to sustainable development.
65% of people don’t have access to electricity in Somalia, and increasing access to energy has been identified as one of the most cost-effective, fastest ways to transform the country.
Many communities rely on costly and polluting diesel minigrid systems, the AMP Somalia project is tailored to the country’s energy sector and aims to enable the hybridization of existing diesel minigrids and to make solar minigrids more competitive and affordable. This will entail supporting clean energy digital technologies and on the institutionalization of multiple initiatives already underway.
