At the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, The Rockefeller Foundation announced an additional US$15.9 million to support the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and the World Bank Group in their ambitious mission to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.
As part of this landmark event—hosted by the United Republic of Tanzania, the African Union, AfDB, and the World Bank Group—The Rockefeller Foundation plans to invest US$10 million into “Zafiri,” the World Bank Group’s newly launched distributed renewable energy (DRE) investment company. Additionally, funding from The Rockefeller Foundation will enable RF Catalytic Capital (RFCC) to allocate up to US$2.5 million in grants to ODI Global Washington for a new fellowship program supporting African governments in achieving their Mission 300 goals. A further US$3.4 million will be directed to Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) to track progress, implement energy programs across the continent, and develop innovative local currency financing solutions.
